How to ride a bicycle?

Morning, traffic jams, crowded city transport … In the winter we can not do anything about it, but as soon as the long-awaited warmth comes and the roads dry up, we have a pleasant and useful alternative – our two-wheeled bicycle friend, on which you can not only ride on the paths and paths of the city park, but also effectively move around the city, for example, going to work or to a store.

The purchase of a bicycle requires a separate article, and maybe a small book, so we assume that we already have a bicycle. This is very good if it is equipped with gearshifts that allow you to move at a much higher speed and use your footwork more efficiently. It is also advisable to equip the bike with a bell, this will greatly facilitate interaction with pedestrians.

Any bicycle ride should be started with an inspection of its appearance. All loose connections must be tightened, the hand brakes must be adjusted so that they do not block the wheels in the unladen condition of the levers and securely locked in place. We will give up tires if necessary, but without showing any fanaticism in this business – the tires should be slightly flattened under the action of the rider, while the ride will be softer. The seat is adjusted so that the foot presses the pedal at the bottom point in fully extended state, then it will be less tired. The steering position should also be comfortable.

All is ready, we leave! But everything is not so simple – we do not have Amsterdam and not Copenhagen. They have there for cyclists there are separate tracks and special traffic lights. A Russian cyclist can move either along the sidewalk or on the right side of the carriageway, while observing, as practice shows, very great caution. Going along the sidewalk means constantly jumping on the curbs and recapturing the space for traffic from pedestrians. Therefore we are going with the spirit – and on the roadway. Yes, be sure to wear a protective helmet before that!

This may seem like an unexpected conclusion, but it is easier and safer for a cyclist to move along large multi-lane avenues than on narrow streets. On the high road, drivers rarely need to take the right-hand row without even having to park, and even parked cars leave enough space.

As a rule, drivers habitually perceive moving cyclists as normal participants in traffic, if too slow speed of a bicycle does not create problems. Therefore, if you have an advantage, for example, you are moving along the main road, then go quietly, you will be missed. I, of course, do not mean notorious auto-marketing people, who may not give up – beware. However, drivers react very painfully when the bicycle slow in comparison with them starts to interfere with them. Therefore, if this situation develops, it is better to leave the sidewalk and go to the class of pedestrians. For example, if you have a separate strip for the right turn, do not try to go straight – you will interfere, but rather turn right and cross the road on the pedestrian crossing. But to give in to cars, when they have the advantage – in your own interests. And, of course, observe the traffic signals.

Turn left for cyclists in most cases is prohibited, and drivers know about it! So do not try. At the intersections, you need to turn left in two stages, first passing the intersection straight, and then to the left, waiting at the corner of the green traffic light signal. You can also use pedestrian crossings. If you are going to bypass the standing transport, show it with an elongated left hand, letting, of course, before this all the traveling on the left. Roundabouts are also best avoided, stop by them only if traffic is not active, and you will not cause interference, otherwise go over the transition.

A pretty unpleasant thing for a biker is trolleybuses and buses. These iron monsters and strive to press against the curb.In addition, the speed of the bicycle is approximately equal to the average speed of the trolleybus, so often the traffic with urban transport resembles a leapfrog: the bicycle overtakes the trolley bus at stops, and between them again is behind. In such cases it is better to slow down the course and give the trolley or bus to come off.

The main thing when driving on the road – be careful, watch cars and pedestrians carefully, and anticipate their possible actions. Then you quickly and without unnecessary trouble get to the place.

It’s not enough to come – you still need to put the iron horse in a suitable stall. Here again problems, special parking for bicycles we do not. Therefore, if you have arrived for a long time, start a bike in the room or at least to the inner courtyard (if this is of course possible). If you are going to leave a two-wheeled friend for 20-30 minutes, then you can fasten it by the frame to a lamp post or a metal fence with a steel cable with a lock. Locks can be either ordinary, which are locked with a key, or code. If the cable is long, it is desirable to cover them and the wheels, at least the front, for it is easier to remove it. But remember, the cables are snacked with special tools that are carried with hunters for someone else’s bicycles, so you have to choose a crowded place. Also, you need to remove all expensive additional devices from the steering wheel – a flashlight, a speedometer, otherwise someone else will do it for you.

When you get to work on a bicycle, you will feel a pleasant tension in the muscles and will be toned all day, which, undoubtedly, will positively affect your mood.

But much higher you will appreciate the advantages of owning a bicycle at the end of the working day, when all your colleagues will be in a traffic jam or get into stuffy buses and metro, and you on your faithful Bolivar go to the forest or park. And you will get much more pleasure, believe me.
