How to behave at the table, or Etiquette – the basics and wisdom

Hello. And how well it all began! The Italian restaurant, unobtrusive music, snow-white tablecloths, noble shine of silver and crystal … And suddenly, without waiting until you finish the steak, she paid for herself and, coldly saying goodbye, went out. Or another option – the chief (instead of appointing you as the first deputy) tomorrow stopped to say hello. It happens: novels and careers end without beginning. And there is no one to be offended, only on their own inability to behave decently at the table. And after all, it was necessary to know only a little.

Distractions from the process of eating should not be. If you have a pager or mobile phone – plug it! Faced with an exhibition of various knives and forks of unknown purpose, you do not need to test your own ingenuity and other people’s well-being. During serving and changing dishes it is better to sit and quietly sip a cup of water from the glass until the well-bred people themselves pick up what they need.

Soups are scooped up only from themselves. When the content comes to an end, you can lightly tilt the plate or cup, also from yourself. True, some connoisseurs of etiquette argue that if you liked the broth very much, you can put aside the spoon and tilt the cup right into your mouth. Let these experts themselves and overturn. And we should not do this, because no broth can be valued above its own reputation.

If in the midst of a meal you need to move away for a while, do not carefully fold up the napkin and leave it on the chair seat. Very few people will be pleased in your absence to examine that it was you who wiped it from your lips. Well, at the end of the meal, the napkin needs to be rolled up and put on the side of the plate.
